About

Tessa Begley

My road to counselling practice was long and winding. I originally studied Psychology as an undergraduate at the University of Alberta with the intention of starting a MA in Counselling a year or two after obtaining my BA. Life, it seems, had other ideas.   While I did receive my Bachelors in 2006, my few years of work experience became a decade long detour which involved an international move, from Canada to the UK.

In 2017 I finally started my Masters in therapeutic counselling at the University of Greenwich. But before then I worked in several mental health support roles. These included a holistic eating disorder clinic which used the 12 steps model for treating our clients, a women's prison where I supported the women in basic life skills and preparing for release,  and an alternate provision college where I supported a group of students with their behaviours, emotions, academics and careers.

I am passionate about improving mental health and feel it should be tended to as much as our physical health.  I enjoy accompanying my clients on their journey's, as painful as it can be.  I bring my years of support experience in my practice working with people across class, race, sexuality, gender and age. I choose to work relationally and in a client-centred model.

As your therapist, I agree to:

  • To be available at the agreed time

  • To start and end on time

  • To offer a quiet, appropriate and undisturbed space

  • To maintain safe, professional boundaries

  • To encourage client autonomy
